The EPA recently announced a proposed update to its 2023 Technology Transitions Rule, which regulates refrigerant classifications across the industry. Under the current timeline, several refrigerant changes are set to take effect on January 1, 2026. However, as of September 30th, the EPA has proposed delaying some of those upcoming requirements.

It’s important to note that this change is still a proposal, not a finalized decision. Before anything becomes official, the rule must move through the formal process — including a 45-day public comment period and a subsequent EPA review. Depending on the outcome, these updates may or may not be finalized before the end of 2025.

For now, the existing regulations and deadlines remain in place. U.S. Cooler is continuing to monitor developments closely and will share updates as new information is confirmed. Regardless of the outcome, U.S. Cooler remains fully prepared for the current January 1, 2026 compliance deadline.

At U.S. Cooler, we’re committed to keeping our customers informed and supported through every regulatory change. If you have any questions about how this proposed delay might affect your refrigeration systems or upcoming projects, please reach out — we’re here to help guide you through the process.
